YouTube is celebrating its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of cultural impact and creator-driven innovation. In honor of this exciting anniversary, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan shared a letter that outlined four key areas that will shape YouTube’s future in 2025.
YouTube has solidified its role as the epicenter of digital culture, with major events like the U.S. presidential election and the Olympics driving record viewership. Mohan explained in his letter that podcasts played a key role in this cultural development at YouTube. As a result, YouTube has plans to enhance monetization and discoverability for creators in the podcasting space.
With channel memberships up 40% and shopping recommendations fueling six-figure sales, YouTube is unlocking new ways for creators to monetize their influence. TV is also evolving, with YouTube now the #1 streaming platform in the U.S. and TV surpassing mobile as the primary viewing device. Mohan noted that YouTube TV is developing new features like second-screen interactions, Watch With for live commentary, and new ad formats to enhance the experience of its 8 million subscribers.
YouTube is also expanding its AI-powered tools to support creators, according to Mohan, including enhancements to Dream Screen with Veo 2, AI-assisted video ideation, and automated dubbing, which will soon be available to all YouTube Partner Program creators. With 40% of dubbed video watch time coming from viewers choosing a different language, YouTube is investing in AI-driven localization to help creators reach new global audiences.

This past Wednesday, Slow Ventures announced the Slow Ventures Creator Fund, a $60 million fund dedicated to supporting creator entrepreneurs who are building businesses rooted in deeply engaged communities. Unlike traditional startup founders, influencers pursuing new business ventures begin with trust, audience distribution, and a shared narrative before layering in products and technology that best serve their niche audiences. This unique approach to authentic business development has inspired Slow Ventures to commit to supporting influencer-founded brands.
As per Slow Ventures, the fund will provide between $1M and $3M investments to creators in high-value verticals, prioritizing expert-driven businesses over traditional influencer brands. Slow Ventures noted in its announcement that the new fund will provide creators with “flexible capital that empowers them to build, launch, and scale their ventures—without constraining the creative freedom and authenticity that have made them so successful.”
Led by Sam Lessin and Megan Lightcap, with Billy Parks joining from The Chernin Group, this fund expands Slow Ventures’ focus on innovative business-building models. Positioned alongside their generalist seed and opportunity funds, the new Slow Ventures Creator Fund marks a significant shift in venture capital, recognizing creators as the next wave of disruptive creator entrepreneurs.
“We are proud of the work we’ve done to bring this first-of-its-kind venture product to market and are excited to support this new class of entrepreneurs as they build the next generation of businesses in this novel model,” shared the Slow Ventures team.

TikTok has cemented its role as a key driver of music discovery, monetization, and chart success, according to its latest Music Impact Report in partnership with Luminate. TikTok’s Music Impact Report analyzing data from 2024 revealed that more than 84% of songs that entered the Billboard Global 200 last year first went viral on TikTok.
TikTok’s Music Impact Report revealed that its “Add to Music App” feature, which first launched in 2024, has already led to over a billion track saves, helping artists convert viral moments into streaming success. The report also finds that U.S. TikTok users are 74% more likely to discover and share new music compared to the average short-form video user.
Another key finding revealed by TikTok’s research with Luminate is that TikTok users contribute significantly to the music economy in the United States. "TikTok's role as a driver of music discovery and artist success is already well known," said Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok. However, Luminate's report goes even further in laying out the many ways in which TikTok and its community of highly-engaged and high-spending music fans are proven to drive incremental revenues, chart success, and added value to artists and the music industry." As TikTok continues to drive artist success, its impact on the global music landscape is only growing.
